Kate is a freelance writer and director living in London originally from Yorkshire. She graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a First Class Hons in Fine Art. Kate went on to work as Assistant Art Director on a number of Northern dramas before moving to London to hone her photographic eye by assisting editorial and portrait photographers. Kate began directing her own work in 2016.
Kate's aim as a writer/director is to unearth compelling stories that represent the under-represented and deal sensitively with home truths. Her passion for topics relating to gender saw her conceptual dance film, ‘Unboxing’, 2017 commissioned by Nowness show at San Francisco Dance Film Festival 2018 and Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2018. Kate continues to explore her connection with art through her films and recently completed a short documentary for The Barbican’s The Art of Change series about censorship in public art. After having completed a series of 7 films on sustainable fashion practice around the globe for the British Council. Kate's other titles include a commercial for Dita Eyewear shot on location in Japan, a fashion film for Gucci x Vogue China starring pop icon Chris Lee and a lesbian love story for perfume brand Edition Perfumes.
Kate's first short drama Vert (2019), stars Nikki Amuka Bird, Nick Frost and Olivia Vinall, it explores how relationship dynamics and how one's identity changes over time. Kate is currently in pre-production for her second short drama Torr (2019), for which she has secured part of the funding from the Lush film fund. Torr is about friendship over coming self-harm in teenage girls and how communication is the the first step towards healing. Kate also has her feature script in the early stages of development.
